BE ACCEPTING

At the beginning of 2020, just a few sweet months ago, I was filled with hope for what the new decade would bring for myself and those I love.


In fact, I was super hopeful for everyone. I made a few promises to my SELF and committed to follow through.

So, fast forwarding to April 1st 2020…and who would have thought we would be facing a pandemic and every single human being on the earth is affected one way or another. Indeed, WE are ALL in this together.

Today’s way of BE-ING is…ACCEPTING.


Acceptance means that we will surrender to the process. We will do our best to protect ourselves and others by following the guidelines of our governments. Does it feel fair? No. But it is what it is!


There is true freedom in acceptance. Our acceptance at this time means that rather than panicking and worrying about the future we can embrace each day as it exactly is…right now. We can be calm, purposeful and focused on the people around us.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I can; and Wisdom to know the difference.


This prayer was written Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971) and he used various versions of this prayer widely in sermons as early as 1934. The prayer spread rapidly, often without attribution to Niebuhr, through church groups in the 1930s and 1940s and was adopted and popularized by Alcoholics Anonymous and other twelve-step programs.
